Opportunity for Impact
The hockey world is ready and waiting to be ignited for Christ. In 2009, 1.1 million athletes over the age of 6 played ice hockey in the United States. According to a report total participation in ice hockey has risen by 3.6% in the last year. In 2008 there were 350,000 boys and girls competing in USA Hockey youth programs. In addition to the NCAA (Division One and Three Men’s and Women’s Hockey), there are 378 non-varsity teams competing in the American Collegiate Hockey Association. The third area that is prime for igniting is adult hockey. With thousands of Adults playing hockey on a nightly basis, FCA Hockey is committed to reaching adults and youths across the nation.
FCA Hockey was launched in 2008 with the purpose of igniting the hockey world for Christ. The hockey world consists of coaches, players, families, their support teams, and all whom they influence. The ministry is seeking to ignite them with the truth of Christ’s love for them and the purpose that living for Christ can bring to their lives as athletes and in their day to day interactions and walk. FCA Ice Hockey is accomplishing this through camps, clinics, teams, Bible studies, social interactions, outreach events, and adult hockey leagues.

Ministry Strategy
Camps
FCA Hockey conducts free and paid clinics across the country. The FCA team member requesting a clinic should reach out to Rick for an initial screening call. Clinics are used to establish relationships and a presence in a city or region. Regions that have a successful clinic are prime candidates for a longer Camp. FCA Ice Hockey offers day and overnight camps for campers of all ages. At camp, coaches and athletes will be challenged to reach their potential by offering comprehensive athletic, spiritual and leadership training. Each camper will be placed in a Huddle where they will bond with their leader and a small group of campers their own age. In these small groups spiritual growth is fostered, and campers feel more comfortable opening up to their close group of friends.
Coaches
FCA Hockey has committed to supporting the American Hockey Coaches Association and there members by sponsoring the convention. Sponsorship includes a booth to meet and great coaches as well as hosting a breakfast / chapel on Sunday morning for coaches and their wives. After last year’s convention, a monthly study was started that has grown to 13 coaches. The group meets via conference call once a month and studies the legacy builders study. The study has been a huge success as coaches are growing deeper in their faith as well as strengthening their relationships with other coaches.
Campus
FCA Hockey has started specific “Hockey Huddles” on several campuses across the United States. The team huddle allows the players to meet together with their teammates and share what God is doing in their lives. The small group environment helps non believers to come out and hear what is happening and has resulted in several players accepting the Lord. FCA Hockey is working on several new schools to add to our list of “Hockey huddles” and is excited to pass of the schools to area representatives as they get started up.
Community
FCA Hockey sees the community as a huge avenue for growth and expansion of FCA Hockey. Our plans include planting adult hockey leagues in cities around the country so that Christian and non Christian men can come together and worship before playing the game they love. The second area that we are looking to grow is youth hockey leagues. With our first youth league starting in April 2010, and our Team FCA starting in May of 2010, we are excited about the opportunity of FCA Hockey teams surfacing across the country.
